- How do you screen and select caregivers? — reveals their standards.
- What background checks do caregivers complete? — basic safety.
- Are caregivers employees (W-2) or contractors? — affects insurance and oversight.
- Are you insured and bonded? — protects your family.
Training & supervision
- What training do caregivers receive? — quality of care.
- Who supervises caregivers, and how is quality checked? — accountability.
- How do you handle concerns or complaints? — responsiveness.
Scheduling & continuity
- Will my loved one have the same caregiver(s)? — continuity matters, especially with memory changes.
- What is the minimum visit length? — fit and cost.
- Can you cover weekends, overnights, or holidays? — real availability.
- What happens if a caregiver is sick or unavailable? — backup coverage.
- How quickly can care begin? — important after a hospital discharge.
Cost & agreements
- What are your rates, and what's included? — transparency.
- How and when do you bill? — no surprises.
- Are there contracts or cancellation policies? — flexibility.
- Do you help with long-term care insurance or VA documentation? — see paying for care.
Care & communication
- Do you create a personalized care plan, and how often is it reviewed?
- How will you keep our family informed?
