Common questions

Can meals follow a specific diet?

Caregivers can cook to a diet your family member's doctor or dietitian has already set, such as reduced salt or smaller portions. What they do not do is design that diet. Clinical nutrition is a separate profession and we would not stand in for it.

What if my family member has stopped eating much?

Appetite often responds to company more than to different food. Familiar dishes, smaller plates, regular times, and someone sitting down to eat as well all help. A sustained drop in appetite is worth raising with a doctor, and we would tell you if we saw one.

Does the caregiver eat with my family member?

Usually, if that is welcome. Eating alone is one of the quieter reasons people stop bothering with meals, and a shared table is part of why this works at all.

Is meal preparation available on its own?

It sits inside companion care as one of the everyday tasks rather than operating as a standalone catering service. In practice it is usually combined with groceries, light housekeeping and company.
